Reporting and BI

Klipfolio - the practical guide.

Klipfolio is one of the longest-running cloud BI platforms - shipping since 2001 from Ottawa - with a particular strength in marketing, finance and operations dashboarding for SMBs and agencies. The platform now spans two products: Klipfolio Klips (the original drag-and-drop dashboard tool) and Klipfolio PowerMetrics (a metrics-first analytics tool with a modelled metric layer).

What Klipfolio does

Klips lets you build dashboards from 130+ pre-built service connectors (Google Analytics 4, Google Ads, Facebook Ads, HubSpot, Salesforce, Mailchimp, Shopify, QuickBooks and the rest of the SMB and marketing stack) plus generic SQL, REST and Sheets sources. Visualisations are flexible, with formula-style editing and conditional formatting that feels closer to Excel than Tableau.

PowerMetrics adds a governed metric catalogue - you define a metric once (with dimensions, calculations and source data) and reuse it everywhere. AI-assisted insights, anomaly detection and natural-language queries sit on top. Native integrations cover the same broad SaaS stack, with API and webhook hooks for custom data.

Who it's for

SMBs, agencies, in-house marketing teams and finance teams that want serious dashboarding without enterprise BI pricing. Particularly strong for marketing-heavy use cases where 80% of the value comes from connecting and visualising paid media, web analytics and CRM data.

Pricing, in rough terms

Per month, billed monthly or annually, with separate pricing for Klips and PowerMetrics by user seats, dashboard count and connector volume. Klips starts around USD 90 per month for small teams; PowerMetrics has a free tier for up to 5 users and limited metrics, with paid tiers from around USD 225 per month. There's a 14-day trial across paid plans.

When Klipfolio is the right fit

The right call when marketing or operational dashboarding is the main job, the team is non-technical and you want a tool that connects to your existing SaaS stack without a warehouse in between. Also a sensible default for agencies that need branded client dashboards. A weaker fit for organisations standardised on a cloud data warehouse (Sigma, Looker, Hex are stronger), or for very large enterprise BI deployments.

Watch-outs

The two-product split (Klips vs PowerMetrics) can be confusing - decide which one you need before signing, since they don't share dashboards. Some legacy interface elements still surface in Klips. Connector quality is generally strong but always test your top three sources during the trial - edge-case fields and historical backfill behaviour vary by integration.
