Adobe Firefly - the practical guide.

Adobe Firefly is Adobe's family of generative AI models for images, vectors, text effects and video, trained primarily on Adobe Stock and licensed content so output is positioned as commercially safe. It is integrated across Photoshop (Generative Fill), Illustrator (Generative Recolor, Text to Vector), Express, Premiere Pro and a standalone Firefly web app.

What Adobe Firefly does

Adobe Firefly is Adobe's family of generative AI models for images, vectors, text effects and video, trained primarily on Adobe Stock and licensed content so output is positioned as commercially safe. It is integrated across Photoshop (Generative Fill), Illustrator (Generative Recolor, Text to Vector), Express, Premiere Pro and a standalone Firefly web app.

Who it's for

Design teams, marketing teams and brand creatives already using Creative Cloud, plus enterprises that need IP indemnification on AI-generated content. Particularly strong for editing existing assets in Photoshop and Illustrator. Less relevant for purely generative-from-scratch users who don't use Adobe tools.

Pricing, in rough terms

Bundled with Creative Cloud subscriptions, with a monthly generative credit allowance per plan. Standalone Firefly plans start around $9.99/month for additional credits. Enterprise plans add IP indemnity, custom models trained on your brand assets, and admin controls. Heavy users buy generative credit packs on top.

When Adobe Firefly is the right fit

Right when your design workflow already lives in Adobe and you want AI integrated into Photoshop, Illustrator and Premiere with commercial-safety guarantees. Wrong fit when you need the absolute best raw image quality (Midjourney, Ideogram), or when you don't use Adobe tools.

Watch-outs

Credit consumption isn't always obvious; high-volume designers can hit caps mid-project. Image quality has improved fast but still trails Midjourney and Ideogram on stylised work. Custom Models for brand-trained generation are an enterprise add-on with real implementation effort.
